In celebration of Jonghyun's birthday, Summer of SHINee is teaming up with katrinawritesthings and rollercoasterwrite for two special Jonghyun-centric fic events!
Summer of SHINee x rollercoasterwrite: Jjong's Month Fic Event
This event was started in 2018 by rollercoasterwrite on tumblr, and this year it will be hosted by Summer of SHINee on Twitter as well!
Jjong's Month will be a celebration of Jonghyun's lyrics and songs, as we create and share our own stories inspired by the stories he tells through music.
Rules & Guidelines
In accordance with the usual Jjong's Month rules and theme...
prompt ideas must be inspired by songs and/or lyrics that Jonghyun has written. prompts/fics must be Jonghyun-centric in some way. This can be through a romantic pairing, platonic friendship, or just a story focusing on Jonghyun himself!prompts can be inspired by one lyric from a song, an entire song/its concept, the writing process/creation of the song, the story a song tells, etc! You're encouraged to be as creative as you'd like~finished fics must be a minimum of 1000 wordsprohibited themes: rape/non-con, incest, pedophilia/illegal age gap, major character deaththemes that must be tagged: graphic violence, drug use, alcohol use
Schedule
The schedule for this event will be relaxed and low-pressure--similar to the original event!
Prompting Period: March 8 - March 22
Claiming/Writing Period: March 23 - April 29
Submission Deadline: April 29, 11:59 PM EST.
Posting Period: April 1 - April 30
Similar to our Kinktober event, there will be no strict check-in deadlines or a definitive posting week. Instead, writers will pick up prompts, write them, and submit them all throughout the writing period.
Once April officially begins, we will reveal/post/share fics as writers submit them.
Prompting/Claiming
There will be two options for prompting in this event: Regular 'Summer of SHINee' style prompting, and self-prompting.
Regular Prompting
anyone may submit prompts--even if you don't plan to write a fic!prompts must be inspired by lyrics and/or songs that Jonghyun has written.if you'd like to submit a prompt, you will fill out our prompting form when prompting begins on March 8.prompts will be displayed on a spreadsheet and available for everyone to view once the Claiming/Writing period starts on March 23.
Self-Prompting
if you're a writer who already has an idea for a fic you'd like to write, you may choose to self prompt!you will simply fill out our self-prompting form, indicating to us that you will be taking this route.all the content guidelines for the fest and for regular prompting will still apply to whatever idea you decide to pursue.
Claiming
Claiming for this event will be much more freeform than our other events. Rather than filling out a claiming form, writers who aren't doing self-prompting will simply decide on the prompt they'd like and begin writing it.
Prompts in this event will function more as jumping off points/inspiration for stories, so there will be no "claiming" in the traditional sense.
Once you decide on a prompt you like, you may immediately begin writing it. Writers may work on fics up until the April 29 submission deadline.
Submission Guidelines
once you finish a fic, you will fill out our submission form.you may post to any fanfiction site, but if you decide to post to ao3, please post in our Jjong's Month collection.submissions will be open throughout the writing period, up until the submission deadline.during April, the mods will post a few fics a day to our Twitter account, as we receive submissions.since the writing period begins in March, this means that if you do finish your fic before April begins, you may submit early! We just will not share your story on our account until April starts.if your story is hosted on ao3, this means we will not reveal it publicly until April begins.
Summer of SHINee x katrinawritesthings: Favorite Jonghyun Challenge
In collaboration with katrinawritesthings on tumblr, we will be hosting a fic rec event centered around our favorite depictions of Jonghyun!
Participants may recommend any fic they enjoy which features a Jonghyun characterization that they cherish and love. This event will be all about celebrating Jonghyun in his many forms<3
Rules + Guidelines
the event will run from April 1 - April 30to rec a fic, you will fill out our fic rec form. The form will instruct you to link the fic and provide a comment on why you love how Jonghyun is characterized in this particular fic!prohibited themes: rape/non-con, incest, pedophilia/illegal age gap, major character deaththemes that must be tagged/warned for: graphic violence, drug use, alcohol useas we receive fic recs, we will share them on our Twitter account so that everyone can participate in the jjong love!
